^ They sound a lot like Depeche Mode - but that's never a bad thing, right?

Looks like it would have been a great show - will have to check this band out!

classic band around since early 80's.

if you hit any of the "alternative" dance clubs. .you should recognize a bunch of the songs

two of the other early BIG club hits:

(as you can tell, "Twist of Shadows" the 2nd album, was a BIG breakthru for them on the darkwave/club scene)

Caught the tour of Knocked Loose, Terror, Jesus Piece, and Year of the Knife in Phoenix last week. Every one of these bands absolutely ripped. It's awesome how much energy Terror still plays with and how easily they can get every person in a packed venue moving, they are true legends. K//L is probably my favorite band at the moment and they were stupid good live. If you're into heavy music and haven't checked these guys out yet do yourself the favor, they're gonna be the biggest band in the world.

I would have gotten tickets for the date in Philly tomorrow, but I'm going to be with my family on Easter and it's already sold out anyway. Knocked Loose is pretty cool, but Jesus Piece is a band I REALLY want to see live, and I've heard great things about Terror. It's good to hear they all put on a great show.

Saw Brad Paisley last night at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. It was a last minute thing, as my sister texted me Friday night asking me if I had any interest in going. It was a really good show. Brad was really good and so were the opening acts Lindsay Ell, Chase Bryant, and Dustin Lynch

saw Front 242 last night in an amazing show (only Texas date this leg of the tour).

absolutely KILLER setlist, with the 2 "big" hits, but otherwise, mainly from 1st 2 albums, the old school fans were very pleased.

(no "Tragedy for You" tho. . . they had been playing it, but didn't at Austin show. . instead we got "Quite Unusual" "Funkadafi" and "U-men". . which they had not been playing. . so no complaint from me at all).

took a lot of pics, but here are my favorites.. .they sold out the Mohawk, which holds ~1500 on several tiered levels. . of course, I was right up front

another killer show last night: Covenant

loudest show I've been to in a long time, so thank goodness I had my earplugs with (always bring just in case, and actually needed them last night).

lots of smoke/fog & light effects, make it hard to get good pics, but think I got some good ones.

and as always, if you're not familiar with this brilliant Swedish band, here are my two favorite songs:

^ I want the t-shirt!!! Great photos of yourself with the guys, and onstage, Bert!

I restrained myself to NOT buy another black T-shirt, but did buy both CDs (special editions) they had on sale.

too funny, was hanging out talking to them and taking pics, and my friend Jennifer says "you aren't going to get a CD signed?". .and I was like. . . oh. . guess I should.

LOL

I went to 3 concerts in the past 3 weeks, so there’s a lot to report.

Kill Your Idols, Fireburn, Violent Society, Berthold City, and Please Die! at Underground Arts: Please Die! is a Philly hardcore punk band reminiscent of bands like Negative Approach, Negative FX, Agnostic Front, etc, and they’re always great. Berthold City is a new straight edge hardcore band, and they already have some great anthemic songs, and they perform with tons of energy. Violent society is an old street punk-type band. I wasn’t very familiar with them but they were good. Kill Your Idols is probably best described as a melodic hardcore/punk band and they were the main act. Fireburn is a hardcore punk/reggae supergroup with Todd Youth (AMAZING bassist from a bunch of NYHC bands) and Israel Joseph I (AWESOME vocalist who sang for the Bad Brains for a short time), and they were the band I wanted to see the most. They were fantastic. There’s a lot of Bad Brains influence obviously, but at points they remind me of NoMeansNo (mainly due to Youth’s style of bass playing) and the reggae songs reminded me more of the UK Subhumans and Citizen Fish than Bad Brains.

Ty Segall and the Freedom Band and Long Hots at the Trocadero: Long Hots are a garage rock/post punk-ish band, and they were decent. Ty Segall played one of the best performances I have ever seen. Everyone should know who he is, but if you don’t, he plays psychedelic rock/noise rock. The Freedom Band is his backing band for this tour/new album (which is great BTW). He played a lot of new stuff but also played some songs from Emotional Mugger and some older albums. Ty and the other guitarist in his band are really excellent and there were tons of fantastic solos. The set was also pretty long.

Jeff Rosenstock, Martha, and Bad Moves at Union Transfer: A singer/songwriter guy played first, but I didn’t know who he was. Bad Moves, and especially Martha, were really solid pop punk bands and they put on great performances. Jeff Rosenstock is THE pop punk/punk rock/emo/ska punk/whatever god. His band played almost every song from Post and Worry, but didn’t neglect the older stuff either. We were all singing as loud as we could, the crowd was super energetic, Jeff and the rest of the band were giving it their all, and it was truly a magical performance. I was never so emotional at a concert, and it was one of the best things I ever saw/heard. Also they walked onstage to this, which was absolutely hilarious since I already knew this meme but wasn’t expecting it at all:

I went to Sunday of the local rock festival and watched sets from Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Bullet for My Valentine, Wolf Alice, and Turnstile. Foo Fighters were great as expected, but Turnstile was a surprise, those guys got after it and were pretty impressive.

I LOVE Turnstile and I can’t wait to see them this weekend. I saw the schedule for the festival you’re talking about and noticed that Queens of the Stone Age and Baroness played at the same time. I think you made the right choice seeing QOTSA, but that would have been a painful decision for me to make.

Yeah there were quite a few schedule overlaps that kinda sucked. Thrice was on the same time as Turnstile, Clutch and Wolf Alice. I'm not a huge fan of any of those so on one hand it's cool the drop in for a few minutes of each band but was probably frustrating to people who are fans and had to pick one or the other.

Going to watch Chris Thompson tonight! It's an annual event in my city, and like every year I'm really looking forward to it. Been humming on 'Mighty Quinn' all day lol...

Wait, THE Mighty Quinn?

Edit: cool, never heard of Chris Thompson by name, but I definitely know Manfred Mann!

^Yup! The concert was, as always, bloody fantastic! Mighty Quinn raised the roof, as did all the other classics such as Blinded by the Light, Davy's on the road again, etc... Being in a small venue with a low roof and FANTASTIC sound quality really makes it one hell of an experience!

Went to Parkway Drive show in Louisville Thursday it was awesome as usual.

Last night was Ghost in cincy and it was absolutely amazing. 24 song set took around 2 hours and 15 minutes. Pretty much everything I wanted to see was played. The new production and songs were great. I can’t wait to see them again.

A few weeks ago I saw Turnstile, Touché Amore, Culture Abuse, and Razorbumps at the TLA. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Turnstile played with tons of energy and the crowd was awesome. People were stage diving over the barrier. The lineup of bands had a ton of variety. Razorbumps is a garage punk-style band, Culture Abuse is pop punk, Touché Amore is a very emotional post hardcore band, and Turnstile is like an insane combination of Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, and Bad Brains fused with modern hardcore and pop.

The next day I saw Power Trip with Sheer Mag, Fury, and Red Death at Union Transfer. Power Trip was excellent and anyone who likes crossover thrash should listen to them. Sheer Mag is basically a classic rock band in modern times. They were great, and a really fun band to see live. Fury is an awesome hardcore punk band that’s been getting some hype over the past year, and Red Death is also a crossover thrash type band.

This June I’m seeing Parquet Courts, (which I can’t wait for since their new album is awesome), then King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard soon after that (which is one of the absolute GREATEST live bands around).

It's coming up on Electric Forest time, and I can't go this year, so I went to the first night of Spring Awakening in Chicago. I don't go out of my way to listen to EDM, but it was a nice little fest, and a good time.
